INSIDE PASSAGE
7-Night Juneau Round-trip Cruises
|
DAY 1 Juneau
Embark in Alaska's frontier capital, a charming town nestled at the head of Stephens Passage with the vastJuneau Ice Field at its back door. Tonight? Meet and mingle at the Welcome Aboard Dinner.
DAY 2 Skagway
Soak up history and listen to tales of the trail during a scenic optional rail journey aboard the famed White
Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, a Civil Engineering Landmark. Built through rugged mountains "too steep for a billy goat and too cold for a polar bear," the ride reveals dramatic mountain peaks and tumbling waterfalls. Back in town, explore the taverns and shops that line the storied boardwalk.
DAY 3 Nature Cruising
Cross Sound, Point Adolphus Empress of the North navigates narrow passages to boisterous seal haul outs and bird rookeries and glides up close
to chilly glaciers. Today, the Captain will pick the best spots to see glaciers calve and thunder, Glacier Bay National Park, (subject to entry permits) tops the list. And he'll select premiere places, like Point Adolphus, to spy whales and other marine life.
DAY 4 Peril, Neva & Olga Straits, Sitka
Grab your morning coffee and head out on deck. The scenery coming into Sitka through Peril, Neva and Olga Straits with the perfect volcanic cone of Mt. Edgecumbe dominating the scene is utterly spectacular. Optional tours showcase fascinating regional highlights at the SheldonJackson Museum and Sitka National Historic Park. See bald eagles up close at the Alaska Raptor Center. Activities in the great outdoors like kayaking and fishing are also available via optional shore excursions.
DAY 5 Petersburg, LeConte Glacier
Your day in charming Petersburg gets
off to a rousing start with freshly-
baked Norwegian pastries and regional dances performed by the Norwegian
Folk Dancers. During your explora
tions in port, see ancient petroglyphs, marvel at rose maling designs - the art
of Norwegian flower painting and an included visit to the Clausen Memorial Museum. Dinner will be served "glacierside" at LeConte Glacier or Thomas Bay. Then, focus your camera on the whales of Frederick Sound.
DAY 6 Stikine River, Wrangell
The Tlingit named it the Great River. John Muir called it a Yosemite a hundred miles long. You'll know the Stikine River as an unforgettable highlight of your cruise where bear, salmon, blacktail
deer and bald eagles abound. It courses past the town of Wrangell, where your opportunities for optional outdoor activities are just as plentiful.
DAY 7 Dawes Glacier,
North & South Sawyer Glaciers
Cruise up dramatic Endicott Arm for breakfast alongside Dawes Glacier. As high as a 33-story building, this massive river of ancient ice frequently calves
huge slabs of frozen, compacted snowfall right before your eyes. Your ship will also wind its way through the stunning scenery of Tracy Arm and its North and South Sawyer Glaciers. Relive peak experiences with your table mates at dinner.
DAY 8 Juneau
After breakfast, It's time to say "farewell" but not "good-bye." We wish you a safe flight home and invite you to come back aboard again soon.
